Well, I DID use the expression "udder bag is utterly enormous" on purpose! And STILL no baby!

Finalmente! La mamma pecora ha avuto gemelle il martedi' pomeriggio. or Finally! The mamma sheep had twins on Tuesday afternoon.

While I'd like to say all are doing fine, the babies quickly heated up Wed morning in the sun. Brendan and I rescued then in the nick of time (another 2 hours and they'd have been dead!). They were panting hard and extremely weak. We fed them some lamb supplement we keep in the freezer for just such emergencies and moved the whole family to a more shaded pen. They are doing fine now although not as strong as they would be otherwise.

The really bad news is that this is the mamma who rejects her lambs (I told Brendan she was!) and while she's accepted the boy, she's rejected the girl. So we're going out every 3 hours or so and making mamma stand there to let baby girl nurse. Brendan, bless his heart, was out at 3 am this morning :-)

Oh, and as soon as the lambs have been weaned, mamma is gonna become lamburger and stew meat! This is the 3rd time she's rejected her lambs. Brendan says her new name is "Bad Mamma".

Thank your lucky stars, Kathie, that she waited until we got back!
